MuSIC BRINGS ME JOY - iVAN’S STORY

“My name is Ivan O. and I’m in 6th grade at Village of Hope. I’ve been sponsored by Mama Jennifer and Dad Greg for nine years now. This has been a long time but also the best time of my life. I’ve known them almost all my life and I still remember the first time I received a letter from them. I felt so happy. Every time I get a new letter, it’s like getting a gift. It reminds me that someone far away truly cares about me.

I always keep their letters in a safe place. I read them when I feel down. They tell me to work hard, to believe in myself and to never think I am nothing. They always tell me that they love me and I always remember those words. This has stuck with me.

When I think about Village of Hope and my sponsors I feel proud. I feel special. There are people in the world who may not know me in person, but they care enough to write to us, support us, and cheer us on. For sure, this is something that touches and leaves us speechless.

Music is a big part of my life. When I’m playing instruments, whether it’s drums, a xylophone, or something else, I feel alive! Music helps me get through hard days. It’s like a safe place. I feel joy when I play. It reminds me that no matter what is happening around me, there’s still something good inside me. Village of Hope has helped me grow that gift. They give me space to explore my talent and feel free to express myself. I am so grateful for that.

To my sponsors and everyone that makes Village of Hope possible, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being there, for your letters, your love and your support. You’ve made us feel seen. You’ve made us feel like we matter. Thank you for helping me find my voice and my song.”
