FAQ
-
What does my sponsorship fund?
Your sponsorship provides housing, education, medical care, counseling, salaries for staff who care directly for the children (house moms, teachers, nurses, etc.), and other needs to help them grow physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.
-
How much of my sponsorship will go to care for my child?
100% of your sponsorship goes to Uganda to care for VOH orphans! We do not take any administrative costs from your donation.
-
Can I send letters to my child?
YES! You have an opportunity to build a lasting relationship with your child through shared letters and photos. We hand deliver “suitcase” mail to the Villages about three times a year (spring, summer, fall). We will notify you a few weeks before we’re leaving so you can send us your letter. Each sponsor will receive guidelines for letter-writing in your sponsorship package.
-
How has COVID impacted the sponsorship program?
Whenever the country enters a lockdown which requires schools to close, VOH orphans must return to their guardians (every child has one). During that time, your child will receive enough food and sanitizers to provide their entire household, as well as medical care and trauma counseling. Suitcase mail has not been possible since the start of the pandemic; however, we are sending letters and photos over electronically as children are returning to the Villages.
-
Can I send gifts to my child?
We ask that you send only pencils, pens, stickers, or small bookmarks. Our children live together in the Village and have a history of trauma. If some children receive gifts and others do not, it can have a deep impact on a child’s esteem and mental health.
-
Is Village of Hope an orphanage?
No, we are an orphan care Village. Our children live in the Villages during school, but remain connected with their extended family and community by returning to their guardians during school breaks. During those breaks, your sponsorship continues to provide all their needs.
-
Will I be my child's only sponsor?
The cost to care for a child at Village of Hope is $120/month so each child will have up to three sponsors until they reach full sponsorship.
-
Do I have to pay monthly or can I do a quarterly or annual donation?
You may choose the payment frequency that works best for you.
-
How long will my child stay at VOH?
Your child will stay in our program until they have the skills to be self-sustaining - until they have the tools to get a job and take care of themselves physically, financially, and emotionally. VOH orphans do not “age-out” of our program when they reach 18.
-
What happens if I can no longer provide support for my child?
We understand that life changes happen and you may have to discontinue providing financially for your child. If that happens, please notify us and we will discontinue your automatic payments and begin looking for another sponsor to provide for your child. You are welcome to continue corresponding with him/her. You have built a loving relationship and your letters will continue to be an encouragement to them.
