Barbara’s Story
Barbara was among the first group of children who joined Village of Hope in 2009. She lost both her parents during the war and was living with her elderly grandmother who was sick and not able to provide for her or her younger siblings.
“I can’t imagine how my life would have been if I had not joined Village of Hope. It think it would have been bad. I probably would have been married as a very young girl or even possibly killed during the war,” Barbara shared.
Barbara continued, “Village of Hope gave me love and embraced us every morning. I had a house to sleep in, clothes to wear, food to eat. All my needs were met.”
Barbara completed her degree in secondary education and is now a teacher at Village of Hope Secondary School. She helps her younger siblings with school fees and helps support her grandmother who is very ill. She is also saving money to get her master’s degree in education.
Barbara serves as a role model for other Village of Hope orphans. “I encourage them to never give up because there is hope. Stay focused and disciplined. You can always overcome your situation.”
