Shelters closed in Gulu! Children each night would walk to the shelters to sleep in safety, but in December 2006 the government forced all the shelters to close. Now children are sleeping in the alleys and store patios to keep safe from Rebel abduction.
The government has also told the people in the refugee camps to go home, even though there are no homes for them to go back to since the Rebels burned down their homes and villages. And there is still fear of Rebel attack.
The situation in Northern Uganda is desperate. According to resources, the UN has cut the amount of food distributed each month to ½ of what was given before.
We need $35,000 immediately to buy the land, build the well and begin moving the children to safety.
