We are so excited about working on the new library (using one of the Secondary classrooms). Our interns spent ALL day cleaning and setting it up. Then one of the wild fires came right up to the school… and all the black ash covered the floors, shelves… everything they just did. “Welcome to Uganda” =)

Oh, woke up yesterday to 100 of the neighbor cows in our fields, eating cassava (main staple of our kids’ diet) and our young mango trees. Mike wasn’t too happy… neither was I. Again, “welcome to life in Uganda.” =)

I love it, you never know what a day will bring. But we DO know WHO brings the day.

A family reunited

I told you Rose would find a way to sneak a few more kids to the Village. Well she did and her name is Barbara!

She is Norbert & Norman’s little sister. For 4 years we have been asking their “auntie” if she could live with us… but she refused because she needed Barbara (5 or 6 years old at the time) to take care of her. So we kept praying.

The other day the “auntie” called Rose for help… and asked if she could take Barbara. Of course – Rose was more than happy to help! We are all so happy to have her here and so are Norbert and Norman! A family reunited!!!

We all had the GREATEST time with the kids! They played musical instruments in the costumes they wore during the Summer Competition, where they took first place! Then the rest of the day they… DANCED!!!!!

Girls dancing in their beautiful outfits!!! Oh what fun we had just watching them… have fun! And of course some of “us” (me) jumped right on in there!

Even the little ones want to join in…

Getting Letters

The children received all of their letters from their friends in the US. They were soooooooooo excited, you would have thought I was giving away new cars! =)

A piggery

We are in the process of building a “piggery” (pig farm) at the Village. They are going to pour the concrete slab today. I can’t wait until we get some pigs… so we can name them… “bacon”, “chop”, “summer” (sausage) =) and then teach them how to make a Hawaiian style PIG!!! Yum! Yum! 83 New Kids Move to the Village!

On Sunday January 30, 83 orphans moved out of refugee camps where they have lived for most of their lives and moved to the VOH Village. For the first time many of them will sleep on a bed, eat three meals a day, get an education and feel safe! This gives us a total of 151 children at the VOH Village! There is much to be excited about!

All 83 of these children need a sponsor. Please considering sponsoring one of them today

Meet the Children of the Village

This year, the first seventy-two children moved from huts in the refugee camps to four new homes in the Village. Two homes (Hope and Love) are filled with girls ages 9 to 15 and the other two (Grace and Mercy) are filled with boys ages 8 to 15.

By helping a child in the Village, you will provide nutritious food, clothing, medical care, educational opportunities and counseling. Your sponsored child will know your name and you will have the opportunity to build a relationship with that child through correspondence.

It costs $100 per month to care for a child in the Village. If you become a full sponsor ($100 per month), you will be the sole sponsor of the child you select. Partial sponsorships are also available at $30 or $50 per month (your sponsored child would have one to two additional sponsors to total approximately $100 per month).
