Feed 24 Children For One Month Feed 24 Children For One Month

Every Monday morning, Concy (one of our house moms) goes to our VOH store room and carries beans, rice, posho (corn flour), oil, onions, tomatoes and sugar to her home. This will be enough food to feed 24 orphans, 1 house mom, 2 assistant moms (child mothers) and their own children, which is about 4-6 little ones. They also receive beef and fish twice a week, along with other food they grow in their gardens.

$1000 will feed 24 children for one month.

Feed One Child for One Month Feed One Child for One Month

It is amazing to see how much our children can eat!

At a School Athletic Competition the officials told us, “Your kids are FAT, what do you feed them?” Well that had to be the BEST compliment we had ever heard. That is so much better than ribs showing and distended bellies.

Remmie is holding a yummy tomato that his “mom” (house mom) will use when making beans.

$40 will feed one child for a month.

Floor Mats Floor Mats

Our handsome boys are showing off their muscles as they carry a mat!

Not sure what the two have in common. Maybe they are saying how “strong” the mat is. Mats are used all the time in the homes; for eating meals, gathering in the evening to share and sing, or sitting outside as they pick out the bad beans from the good beans before cooking.

One mat costs $10.

House Mom’s Salary For One Month House Mom’s Salary For One Month

We are blessed with the most amazing and loving “house moms” at the Village!

Judith is the house mom for HOPE. She is especially sweet and calls all the children at the Village “my children.” She continues, “When they first came to the Village they had no hope for life, they had no one to care for them. They were not friendly with the other children and would treat them mean. But I have seen God change their hearts. They treat each other like brothers and sisters. They will even discipline each other and want to be good examples to the younger children. Their love for each other has increased. I love them like they were all my children.”

$175 will provide the salary for one house mom for a month.

Jerry Cans Jerry Cans

These jerry cans come in mighty handy...

...whether the kids are fetching water for their baths, or washing their clothes or dishes. And when the cans break, they are a great wagon...without the wheels.

One jerry can costs $5.

Mosquito Nets Mosquito Nets

Mosquito nets are a life saver.

Mosquitoes can carry malaria, a disease that can lead to death. The nets keep the mosquitoes out but tend to wear out quickly due to the small problem of the children wanting to cut holes in them for ventilation (they call them windows). Just another opportunity for a lesson being taught to the children at the Village.

One mosquito net costs $10

Pots and Pans Pots and Pans

Have you ever cooked for 24 hungry children?

Well, it is a three-times-a-day feat that our house moms do each and every day. And eventually their pots and pans wear out. Let’s surprise all the moms this year with a new set of pots and pans!

One set of pots and pans costs $50.

Shoes Shoes

It is not clear if it's the rapid growth of the children’s feet or just how rugged they are on shoes, but when you only have one pair of flip flops and one pair of school shoes, they do tend to wear out in a year. At the beginning of each school year we like to give all the children new shoes (their school year starts in February).

You can provide a child with flip flops ($5), school shoes ($20), or one pair of each ($25).
